FAST-MOVING FOXCONN DEVELOPMENT PRESENTS EXTRAORDINARY OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONTRACTORS AND COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT WISCONSIN
What is Foxconn?
Foxconn specializes in design, manufacturing and assembly of global computer and high-tech consumer electronic products. The company is well known as the assembler of iPhones and has chosen Wisconsin to build a new high-tech manufacturing and technology campus building Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD). This will be the first LCD facility of any kind in North America and will manufacture LCD screens that will be used in everything from self-driving cars to aircraft systems and in the fields of education, entertainment, health care, safety and surveillance.
Being a leader in research and development, Foxconn focuses on the fields of nanotechnology, heat transfer, wireless connectivity, material sciences, and green manufacturing processes. The company has several research centers and testing laboratories and has received more than 55,000 patents worldwide.
Where is Foxconn Developing?
Foxconn plans to build a 22-million-square-foot campus on a nearly 1.2-square-mile area in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. Mount Pleasant is a village of around 25,000 people in Racine County, Wisconsin located approximately 30 miles south of Milwaukee and 60 miles north of Chicago along Interstate 94. The Foxconn campus will become one of the largest manufacturing campuses in the world.
Fabick Rents has a facility within a few miles of this location. We are currently expanding our service capabilities at this location to help better serve contractors who will be working on this massive, multi-year project.
How Does This Impact the Community?
- Approximately 13,000 jobs directly created with 10,000 construction jobs over each of the next four years
- At least 22,000 indirect jobs throughout Wisconsin
- With $10 billion of capital investment to construct and equip the facility, $5.7 billion of that investment will be for construction and equipment sourced from Wisconsin businesses
- At least a $7 billion annual economic impact on the state is projected
- With hiring, permitting, planning and construction in progress currently, Foxconn plans to be operational in 2020
How Does This Impact Fabick Cat?
Foxconn named Hoffman Construction and Michels Corporation, two of Fabick Cat’s trusted customers, among the first group of subcontractors on the project. The Black River Falls WI based company, Hoffman, was awarded excavation, storm water management and erosion control work. And Michels, the international utility and infrastructure contractor based in Brownsville, WI, landed the aggregate and underdrain portion of phase one. Due to our strong partnerships, Fabick Cat will play a key role in supporting their success, keeping in mind this is just the first phase of a multi-year construction project that will affect all business units of our company.
Knowing the potential for continuous growth with this development, the dedicated team at Fabick Cat is moving full steam ahead focused on supplying the necessary support. The goal for our dealership is to provide equipment, product support and technological advances making the Foxconn site a fully connected environment with CAT® CONNECT SOLUTIONS. By offering our full suite of digital services; condition monitoring, fleet management and advanced equipment diagnostics, the job site will be managed by our customer and fully supported by the experts at Fabick Cat.
“Foxconn is bringing the future of manufacturing to the U.S., and Wisconsin will be the leader. The technology of the future will be discovered and built in Wisconsin” (Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation)
This is an incredible moment of growth for our dealership. Alongside Caterpillar, Fabick Cat looks toward a bright future as we build upon this opportunity and monumental impact this project will have for years to come.
