The establishment of RV centers was driven by a Caterpillar initiative to target this specialty niche for Cat engines. RV customers happen to be quite "unique" when compared to the typical engine/power systems customer. Normally, a truck engine customer is defined as an on-highway, line haul, tractor trailer or local delivery straight truck type customer. These units range in price from $50,000.00 to $130,000.00 and are used to generate revenue for an owner operator or fleet.
On the contrary, RV’s are luxury traveling homes ranging in price from $150,000 to $1.5 million dollars. The interiors of these units are comparable to an expensive home, with most of the amenities built in. With a growing number of CAT engines being installed in RV’s, Caterpillar recognized the need for “specialized” service facilities for these expensive nomadic homes. Cleanliness is of utmost importance when servicing an RV because engine access is typically located in the living room or bedroom. For this reason, all RV service facilities maintain dedicated bays for RV customers.
In order to perform at the level both Cat and the RV customer expects, Fabick CAT made a major investment in tooling, equipment, facility improvements, and service options resulting in Cat-Certified RV Centers. CAT-Certified RV service is available at four Fabick CAT locations; Fenton, Columbia, Joplin, and Springfield. The services offered are PM maintenance and engine service. However, the new Columbia facility takes RV service to the next level including wheel alignment and water, power, and waste dump provisions, as well as a customer waiting area with phone and internet access. Columbia also utilizes Rotary Lifts for both diagnostics and service allowing for more efficient customer service.
